Many               sites               will               list               games               that               can               be               extremely               expensive,               outdated,               or               catered               to               a               certain               group               of               people.

I've               tried               to               be               fair               and               compile               a               list               of               my               favorite               LAN               games,               which               are               cheap,               aesthetically               pleasing,               and               a               ton               of               fun               to               play               with               friends.

1.Diablo               II:               Diablo               II               is               one               of               the               best               games               ever               created,               and               it               is               a               lot               more               fun               in               multiplayer.

The               graphics               are               somewhat               outdated,               but               every               game               that               has               copied               it               has               come               up               short               in               far               worse               departments.

Each               player               can               decide               how               he               or               she               wants               to               level               up               his               or               her               character               to               best               benefit               the               team.

Rare               items               can               be               shared               between               party               members               and               given               to               whoever               needs               it               most.

The               quests               are               not               confusing               at               all,               and               each               player               sees               the               cinematics               to               keep               up               with               the               storyline               (which               is               decent,               especially               for               a               hack               and               slash.)               Only               one               person               needs               to               buy               the               game               and               everybody               can               play               offline.
               2.

Warcraft               III:               While               I               am               a               self-confessed               Warcraft               III               addict,               this               is               definitely               one               of               the               best               games               to               LAN.

The               normal               RTS               game               is               one               of               the               best               RTS               games               ever               created,               with               surprisingly               balanced               races,               decent               graphics,               and               an               amazing               campaign.

The               LAN               part               of               it               really               picks               up               when               you               realize               how               many               custom               games               are               available.

The               world               editor               is               extremely               powerful.

Some               people               have               designed               their               own               12               player               RPGs               that               manipulate               and               add               a               new               game               engine,               as               well               as               Diablo               II               style               inventory               and               leveling               systems               (check               links.)               Other               games               are               still               fun-               survival               games,               tag               games,               team               survival,               tower               defenses               etc.

you               cannot               go               wrong               here!

It               is               basically               a               better,               more               fun               version               of               Starcraft               due               to               the               more               advanced               map               editor.

SCII               is               coming               out               soon               and               the               map               editor               looks               promising,               but               it               will               be               very               expensive               to               LAN.
               3.

Dungeons               and               Dragons               Online:               This               game,               created               by               Turbine,               recently               went               free               and               is               a               very               addicting               and               fun               MMORPG               to               play               with               friends.

Just               imagine               World               of               Warcraft,               only               the               player               community               is               better               and               it               is               FREE.

You               do               not               need               to               play               D&D               to               appreciate               this               game               or               the               leveling               system.

Basically               you               get               quests,               slay               monsters,               level               up,               and               repeat.

Keep               an               eye               out               for               Turbine's               LOTR               game,               which               will               be               free               in               the               fall.
Dungeon               Siege               II:               This               game               is               like               Diablo               II,               but               besides               the               graphics               everything               is               a               little               bit               worse.

The               quests,               for               example,               are               really               hard               to               follow               in               co-op               mode               because               they               only               show               up               on               one               computer.

However,               if               you're               like               me               and               you've               played               Diablo               II               a               thousand               times,               this               is               definitely               the               next               best               thing               to               play.
Borderlands:               I               haven't               had               the               time               to               play               this               game,               but               some               of               my               friends               have               and               it               has               received               good               reviews               all               around.

It               features               a               ton               of               weapons               and               funny               civilians               and               can               become               extremely               addicting.

Since               only               one               copy               of               the               game               is               needed               to               LAN,               it               is               definitely               worth               the               money.
Unreal               Tournament               3/Killing               Floor:               Unreal               Tournament               has               many               different               mods               that               I               haven't               had               time               to               explore,               but               one               of               my               favorite               zombie               games               of               all-time               is               Killing               Floor.

It               was               released               as               a               separate               game               and               can               be               bought               for               cheap.

Players               mutilate               weak               zombies               and               run               for               their               dear               lives               as               stronger               and               better               equipped               ones               charge               through               the               hallways               in               later               waves.

Players               can               purchase               better               weapons,               ammo,               and               armor               from               merchants               in               between               waves.

The               game               features               an               amazing               zombie               killing               soundtrack               that               will               really               raise               your               adrenaline.

It               is               a               lot               more               fun               than               it               sounds,               especially               with               up               to               5               other               people               playing.

In               addition               to               the               shooting,               each               player               can               level               up               a               different               class.

Whether               it's               Sharpshooter,               Medic,               or               one               of               the               many               others,               it               will               benefit               his               or               her               stats               and               make               zombie               killing               easier.

Maps               created               by               fans               are               available               for               download               and               can               add               a               lot               of               strategy               to               the               game.
Marvel:               Ultimate               Alliance:               For               Comic               Book               lovers,               this               game               is               probably               the               best               thing               ever               made,               and               it's               even               more               fun               with               three               friends.

Spiderman,               Thor,               Captain               America,               and               Wolverine               gang               up               (each               player               takes               command               of               one)               and               destroy               all               of               Marvel's               best               villains.

Players               gradually               learn               new               attacks               as               they               progress,               adding               new               strategy               to               every               level               and               making               it               an               overall               enjoyable               experience.
Neverwinter               Nights               II:               I               never               really               liked               this               game,               but               a               lot               of               other               people               did               so               I               thought               I               would               include               it.

Its               LAN-able               offline,               but               it               can               be               tricky               to               set               up               that               way               and               most               people               will               resort               to               buying               four               copies.

Anyway,               it's               based               off               the               D&D               books,               meaning               there               are               a               TON               of               specialization               options               for               every               player,               and               a               nice               long               storyline               to               suck               you               in.

If               you               like               D&D,               it's               probably               worth               checking               out.
F.E.A.R:               F.E.A.R               has               had               an               online               multiplayer               that's               been               free               for               a               couple               of               years               now               and               it               is               a               LOT               of               fun               to               play               with               friends.

The               graphics               are               still               somewhat               impressive               and               the               levels               are               designed               very               well.

Check               it               out               if               you're               looking               for               some               shooters,               it               is               definitely               the               best               free               one.

It               can               be               downloaded               off               their               website.
Jedi               Knight:               Jedi               Outcast:               I               used               to               play               this               game               all               of               the               time               and               the               overpowered               force               powers               are               a               ton               of               fun               to               fool               around               with.

Definitely               check               this               game               out               if               you're               into               Star               Wars,               or               just               choking               people,               frying               them               with               lightning,               and               throwing               them               off               cliffs.

There               are               also               a               couple               of               different               game               play               modes,               including               standard               combat               and               capture               the               flag.
